Sewer & Foul Odor Detection

Sewer & Foul Odor Detection

Pipe Surgeons are not only versed in fixing plumbing systems but also in eliminating foul odors that may permeate from within these systems. Not only is the smell unpleasant, but they can contain dangerous gases and chemicals that can create a hazardous environment to live in.

Using advanced smoke testing techniques, Pipe Surgeons will be able to pinpoint where the odor is coming from and eliminate it.

Our range of services is available in all the areas we serve, covering major cities throughout the state. From the Panhandle to Melbourne and West Palm Beach, FL.

Our Foul Odor Detection Process

Our step-by-step process pinpoints and eliminates the source of sewer odors:

  • Step 1: A camera inspection is conducted to ensure there are no other complications within the pipes.
  • Step 2: Large downdraft fans are placed over open manholes at either end of the sewer line, while the rest of the lines are blocked.
  • Step 3: Non-hazardous smoke is generated — either by detonating a harmless smoke bomb or by pouring liquid smoke down the sewer line.
  • Step 4: If the pipes are leaking, plumes of smoke will escape the sewer lines through the leak sites.
  • Step 5: The leak sites are denoted with small flags or markers to determine which sections require replacement or repair.
Our Foul Odor Detection Process

Your sewer odor detection cost can vary, depending on:

Accessibility of sewer cleanout:

A sewer cleanout is the access point for plumbers to get into your home’s sewer line. If your sewer cleanout is on ground-level, it will be less expensive than if your sewer cleanout is located on the roof.

Equipment needed:

Our plumbers will attempt to unclog your drain using a drain cable machine first. If the clog cannot be cleared using the drain cable machine, we may recommend hydro jetting, which will likely raise the total cost of the project.

Plumbing:

You’ll pay more for better-quality plumbers. With any plumbing work, you want a plumber who’s licensed and experienced, offers strong warranties and has a good reputation.

What is Sewer Gas & Why Does It Smell So Bad?

Sewer gas is a mixture of different gases composed of compounds made of hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Prolonged exposure to these gases can be harmful to your respiratory system.

Most of the ingredients of sewer gas are odorless except for hydrogen sulfide and ammonia — these are the key causes for the bad smell you may be experiencing. Using our advanced detection equipment, we locate and eliminate the source.
